That welcome back event at lunch was huge! Great food—fried chicken’s my favorite—music, the best weather all year, friends I haven’t seen all summer and even faculty. Sweet. Thanks, Costco, for bringing snacks.

If you have friends who have been accepted but haven’t enrolled, call today to say they’re missing it. HGTC is where the careers are, where the fun is and at a third the cost of most other public and private colleges in this region.

Can’t wait to meet them. Prof. Steve Luse will get them into computer classes now, and that’s amazing, because his students run the world. (Nothing wrong with that, BTW.)

The Georgetown Campus will host another welcome back party on August 31st,  See ya’ there!   See all events happening at HGTC – like us on Facebook!

It’s Time!

That’s right! The school year is upon us! I’m so super excited. I’ve got all my books now, and even had some left Welcome Back!over money for a few good raw-hides. Let’s get this year started!

So, as official spokesdog, I’d like to welcome all returning and new students back to HGTC!

The semester starts Monday, August 22, but it’s not too late to register!  Late Start classes will be available beginning September 12th!. New class sections are being added daily! Be sure to check the class schedule for the latest availability.   So if you haven’t gotten in and settled yet, there’s still time!

Also, be sure to check out all the activities we have to offer. Many different clubs are offered for most if not all of the majors here. Get in early and get active – who knows what intriguing insights you might walk away with before the semester’s end!

But wait, there’s more! (Ha! I should totally put on an HGTC infomercial.) Other resources the college offers to make any student’s life easier include the Library (quiet and resource-full), the SSTC (perfect for that little extra help with your studies), and the Career Resource Center (I hear new jobs are hiring!). I just found out that there is a new laptop loan program out now! Check the school website or your Wavenet account for more details on that one. I might have to look into it myself… having to go home to blog it up to you guys is just a tail-tip of a hassle.

And of course, there’s even some things for some great “me” time out there as well, such as a trip to the campus beauty labs (even I like to get my nails painted or a good massage once in a while), the dental clinic, all at reasonable prices. And let’s face it, what’s better than getting to relax than also helping another student earn an “A” at the same time?

Oh, and one should never forget the great eateries! Fowler Dining Hall is a great place to grab some gourmet grub, or for the student on the run, the Campus Coffee Shop has great, fast, and hot meals. They have great deals on their coffee, cappuccino and refills too!

So come on in, get registered, get active, and get smart!

Movin’ On Up!

This weekend was a big one for this pup! I mean huge! Anyone here watch “Carolina and Company”

Gizmo's first TV Interview

Movin' on Up with Carolina & Company

on WPDE (Channel 15)?  See anyone familiar? Cute face? Long nose? Lovable eyes? Com’on, I even yawned for the camera!

If you haven’t figured it out yet, I got a chance to interview with Amanda and Cecil. Mom, or as some of you may not know, Melissa Monolo got to sit in too. She did a great job explaining my roll here on campus.

And yes, it was brought up that I resemble one of my favorite acting dogs of all time from Little Rascals!

I’m telling ya’, dog, if you didn’t see it, you should check out the website, www.carolinalive.com.

Vote While You Can!

That’s right! The poll to the right will close on August 6th! It looks like Health Science is going to have a good victory, but there’s still time for you to vote. What program should I study this year? You decide!

The next vote will be coming really quickly, as selecting a major is important. Help me choose what I should study. This will affect what courses I take within that degree, of course, which means my registration and financial aid are all waiting on this to be complete!

I’m super excited, wagging my tail. Mom’s moved all the breakable things out of our office because I just can’t stand still! Hey, HGTC, here I come!

Doggy Breath?

Yea, we canines get a bad rap. We can’t exactly brush our own teeth, or get them cleaned regularly, and I highly doubt braces work for us. I couldn’t imagine diving into a refreshing bowl of Little Caesar’s moist food with those things on.

And after all, Milk-Bones only go so far.

This is where I say I envy the rest of the student population here. Well, not only in the fact that you get to feel clean in the mouth, but also because there’s a new and improved Dental Hygiene/Assisting Program coming to the Grand Strand campus! Those of you interested in keeping the human mouth clean, fresh and brightly smiling now have a chance at an even better education than before, with different and newer equipment that will make our Dental Clinic the most modern in the nation.

If I’m not mistaken, I do believe that the program is taking “test subjects.” If you ask really nicely, and maybe even flash your puppy eyes, you can find a class willing to clean your teeth for a good grade. You can find out more by calling Prof. Alice Derouen at 349-5371. She’s the greatest!

So apparently some things are changing in the Financial Aid area. I found this out today when I went in to check on my status. This is very important stuff!

Did you know that taking courses outside of your tract can now hurt your Financial Aid award?

Yea, it seems that you have to have a certain amount of hours within your tract, and taking other courses instead obviously drops those hours.

You don’t get the hours, you don’t get the award money.

Sorry Professor Bunal, that Photoshop course is gonna have to go.

I suppose trying out the Graphic Design department wouldn’t have worked out anyway, me being colorblind and all.

Financial Aid also says that there are circumstances in which your award won’t be affected if you have attendance issues – things like natural disasters, illness, or even death of a relative won’t make you loose your status. You just have to be sure to let the office know!

Oh, here’s another fun fact: over 91% of students here at Tech use some form of Financial Aid. If you haven’t already, pop in for some more information on the new policies. It can never hurt to ask if you have questions.

Love the Green?

If you love the outdoors as much as I do, consider a major in forestry.

HGTC has the only associate degree forestry program in South Carolina. You can specialize in one of three areas: forest business, timber harvesting or wildlife management. With a major in forestry, you can make plenty of green and enjoy a job that’s not behind a desk.

Listen to what I’ve been telling people on the radio!
